Real-time PCR, applications and protocol
This course is suitable for beginners who wish to learn about good practices and applications for the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) protocol. Real time PCR (or qPCR) is a commonly used research technique to quantify the transcription of specific genes. This technique is one of the most common techniques used in life science research. At the end of this course you will be able to design your own PCR reaction and analyze your results. This course ends with a multiple-choice exam. You will have to pass the exam to obtain a certificate of completion.
This course includes the following classes:
i. Introduction – Online lecture about the origins of the PCR technique
ii. DNA replication – Online lecture about the step by step process of DNA replication
iii. RNA transcription – Online lecture about the step by step process of RNA transcription
iv. Protein translation – Online lecture about the step by step process of protein translation.
v. RNA extraction protocol – Online lecture explaining the RNA extraction protocols
vi. RT-PCR protocol – Online lecture explaining the cDNA generation protocol
vii. PCR simulation – Online PCR laboratory session.
viii. PCR reaction protocol – Online lecture about the PCR reaction design
